Cirdan Sailing Trust - The Duet

Cangle resident's had the chance to enjoy life on the ocean wave with a sailing trip around the East coast courtesy of The Cirdan Sailing Trust.

There were 9 on the boat including 7 from Cangle Foyer, 5 residents and 2 staff. We left  the Cangle at 10.00 in the morning and arrived back about 7pm on the Sunday evening. We went to collect the boat from Ipswich Haven Marina and sailed around the east coast stopping at Levington, Royal Harwich and Woolverstone. The weather was dry all weekend, on the way we had stopped to do the shopping and we had lunch down by the dock.

Resident's get to grips with hoisting the sails.

As you can see from the photos, we had a great time! There were bits that we didn't enjoy like cleaning the boat or the horrible washing up but it was truly an amazing experience.

We took some really stunning photos, picking out which to show is difficult.

An amazing sunset looking towards the Orwell bridge.

We had some real funny moments, one member of staff managed to block the toilet the first time they used it. It took quite a while before the Mate, Will could manage to unblock it.

Cirdan Sailing Trust - The Excelsior

Cangle residents took a sailing trip on the magnificent boat the Excelsior around the east coast. Starting off at Lowestoft, the Excelsior made her way to Harwich after spending a night in open seas where the crew was split into 'watches'.

Working together on the Excelsior

The opportunity to take the powered dinghy out to a remote spot on land was a great experience. Nick, the Bosun was kept busy ferrying the crew of residents from the Excselsior to land.

Nick makes the journey back to the
Excelsior to pick up more people.

An opportunity to take great photographs was never missed, this one was on the way back to the Excelsior from the dinghy.

Marina to board a gaff rigged yawl!
Apart from wind, waves and rain the trip included learning how to cook in a very small galley kitchen,
tacking, gybing, rigging, navigating, working with tides and weather conditions, negotiating lochs and loch
gates and mooring up at various gorgeous locations.
