ECHG have three young parent schemes in Suffolk:
We also have Gibson Lodge in Ipswich which is a supported housing scheme for homeless families and single people.
What do Acorn House, Coupals Court and Peppercorn Lodge have to offer:-
Our young parent schemes offer a stable and secure community in which young parents can achieve independence;
Whilst living at our young parents schemes the staff team can work with you in a number of areas, these can include:
-
Help with life skills ie cooking, cleaning, budgeting, finding employment, returning to education.
-
Encouragement to maintain stable relationships with fathers or partners. If the relationship is stable and positive we will look at the possibility of the partner moving in
-
Signposting to external agencies
- Advice and guidance on relevant benefits
- Help with finding permanent accommodation and on-going informal support when the young person has left the scheme
We encourage tenant involvement, each scheme has a tenant representative and service users can be actively involved in making decisions about any changes that take place within the scheme, you can also work with staff on a variety of projects including completing risk assessments, Health and Safety checks, and arranging trips.
On taking up a tenancy at a young parent scheme each tenant is allocated a Support Worker and Housing Worker. The Support Worker will hold monthly meetings with the tenant to agree an action plan which sets out short-term achievable goals linked to primary objectives.
These can include areas such as parenting skills, budgeting, personal health and hygiene, home management, self confidence, self esteem, money management, cooking, tenant responsibilities and in-house activities.
Your housing Worker will ensure that you are receiving the correct benefits, paying your rent (If applicable) and ensure any repairs that you report are fixed in a timely fashion.
