If you are not already in employment or education and live at the Cangle Foyer, you will be expected to take part in some of the training and activity sessions on offer. Although the Cangle Foyer used to be a school, the Foyer's training sessions are not run in classrooms or led by teachers. They take place in a relaxed and supportive environment and are planned according to your needs and interests!
The Cangle Foyer's core training programme lasts for 12 weeks. If you follow the full programme you should, by the end of it, be ready to deal with major decisions in your life such as going on to further education or applying for a job. If you feel you are not ready to make these decisions by the end of the programme, you have the option to start again.
The training each week is different, giving you the chance to explore issues that are important to you, to find out more about yourself, develop your skills and help you to gain the confidence to get out there and get what you want from life!
The training sessions cover reading and writing skills, social skills, communication skills, career exploration, emotional issues such as anger, bullying and stress, health issues, housing and money management issues. In addition, there are a range of other activities to choose from; sports, arts and crafts, music and cooking. You will also have the chance to gain certificates in Fire Safety, First Aid and Basic Food Hygiene. When you attend these sessions, you earn the opportunity to take part in planned day trips, eg Thorpe Park, Alton Towers, TV studios etc, and residential trips, eg outward bound courses, sailing etc.
