Job Club:
Aims:
Primarily to practice communication, confidence building exercises and a review of career aspirations. To ascertain what direction the resident could/would be able to realistically achieve. To discuss positive and negative outcomes of securing a job and the requirements of sustaining employment.
Connexions advisors on hand to provide assistance to residents in the whole job search process.
Review range of jobs available and discuss methods of approaching employers using telephone skills/ letter writing skills/ CV’s etc.
Resources: Haverhill Echo, Haverhill Weekly News, Cambridge Evening News, East Anglian Daily Times, Job Sheets from Job Centre, Connexions Job Sheets. Use of the Internet and the telephone.
Plan:
After breakfast club, residents gather to browse through the papers and latest job sheets from the job centre.
To have access to computers linked to various job search engines and local and national employers.
Use of the telephone to enquire about vacancies.
Staff available to assist when appropriate.
Attendance (when available) by External and Internal speakers who illustrate their various professions and their job "time line" ie how they ended up doing their current job.
